What temp mail is for

Temp mail is a disposable email address you can give to a website without handing over your real inbox. Some sites want an address before they let you do anything: download a file, start a free trial, join a Wi-Fi network, post one comment. Mail sent to your temporary email shows up on this page within seconds, and the whole mailbox is deleted when its time runs out.

That suits anything you plan to do once. The confirmation link or verification code arrives here, and the newsletters and promotions that usually follow have nowhere to land after the address expires. For more examples, see when a disposable address makes sense.

When to use your real address instead

A temporary mailbox lasts a few hours at most, and nobody can bring it back. Skip it for:

Accounts you will log in to again. A password reset sent to an expired address never arrives.
Banking, payments and government services. Anything tied to money or your legal identity needs an address you control for years.
Conversations with a person. This address can only receive mail. It can't send or reply.

If you want to keep an account but protect your main inbox, an email alias is the better fit.

The limits, in numbers

These are the actual settings on our servers, so you know what to expect before you rely on an address.

Lifetime: 1 hour from creation. Pressing +1 hr resets the clock to a full hour, up to 24 hours after the address was created.
Messages: Up to 50 per mailbox and 5 MB in total. New mail is turned away once either limit is reached.
Message size: Up to 1 MB per email, attachments included. Only the first 10 attachments are kept.
Domain: One domain for every address. Some sites refuse known temporary domains, and this guide explains why.
Sending: Receive only. The address can't send mail, so it can't be used to spam anyone.
Images: The HTML view loads remote images, which can tell a sender you opened the message. Switch to Plain Text to read it without them.
Deletion: After a mailbox expires, a cleanup that runs every 5 minutes deletes its messages and attachments. We keep no archive.

Is PureTempMail Free and Safe?

Yes. PureTempMail is free to use, with no account to create, no credit card to enter, and no premium tier. On the safety side, we store emails only for the lifetime of the mailbox. Once it expires, its messages and attachments are permanently deleted from our servers, with no archive or backup copy. Server logs, which can include IP addresses, are kept for up to 30 days for diagnostics and abuse prevention. Your mailbox identifier is stored only in your browser's local storage, and we do not link it to an account or a name. The service uses analytics and is funded by ads.
